The Colorado Water Issues Committee informs and educates the Lower Colorado River Authority and its stakeholders about rice production in Colorado, Wharton and Matagorda counties — and works to keep the river's water flowing to the fields that depend on it.
CWIC works to ensure adequate and reliable supplies of water are available from the Colorado River to irrigate the area's rice fields, regardless of weather conditions.
That means sitting across the table from LCRA, elected officials and the general public to help create and enforce sound policies and wise management of the river — so the decisions made upstream don't come at the expense of the farms downstream.
CWIC is a non-profit corporation, exempt under section 501(c)(5) of the 1986 IRS Code — organized to advance the shared interests of the region's agricultural community, not to turn a profit.
